What Your Child Makes
The Music Box Kit holds three projects in one box. Kids press out the wooden pieces, fit them together, and set a music box mechanism inside each build. There is a classic music box, a gramophone with a flower-shaped horn, and a carousel with animal riders. Once a build is finished, kids hear it play, then paint it in their own colors.
See How a Music Box Really Works
The instructions include a science fact that explains what is happening inside. As the mechanism turns, a drum covered in small bumps rotates, and each bump lifts and drops a thin steel reed. Reeds of different lengths make different notes, so the bumps work like a musical score. Curious kids can read more in our guide, How Does a Music Box Work?

We absolutely loved crafting these music boxes, the cutest details on each piece, easy to assemble and great instructions. My kids loved making these and love playing the music! Very very cool gift!
My son loved these music boxes! He was so proud that he assembled them by himself and it gave him a great distraction from the “screens break”. I will be ordering other kits in the future!! 10 stars!!! Would definitely recommend! In addition to fast delivery and great customer service, these crafts are so easy and cool! We love them!!!
So I throw my towel in for furniture putting together, but this was just the right amount of difficult. I did this project with teens and they loved it. You can paint in first or last, and both worked out okay. They all play fu:r elise in the music box. One is wound up and the other two you crank to play. The pieces are a little bit rough but it was fine. I love this kit and it was so fun to do with my kids.
I've built alot of wooden kits and puzzles in the past, some fun experiences, some real bad ones. The first thing is even though these are relatively simple to construct, they are very enjoyable to build. The quality of the laser cutting means all you need to do is take off the little remaining nub and the pieces were ready to assemble. The kit includes three different kits, with three different music boxes. Each kit also includes glue, screws, screwdriver, and individual assbly sheet. Once completed the included brushes and paint can be used to decorate it as you'd like. Just make sure to take your time and properly allow the glue to cure for some of the more tiny joints and you can build an attractive model. The music boxes are hand crank operated so they don't wind up, but they're still nice given the price of the kits. Would make a good project for rainy days.
This is one box with three complete and unique crafts for kids to build music boxes. Each craft has its own set of instructions and is individually packaged.Whether you've got one kid interested or multiple to entertain, this set can work for you! You may need to supplement with extra paint, but that's the only concern. Definitely a great value and worth your time!
There are three separate kits in this box. Along with the wood cutouts, each kit has its own tools (glue, screwdriver, music box) and instructions but they share the same paint and brush set. The instructions are well written and even provide a little science fact regarding how components of the music box work. To get 3 kits at its current price ($20 at the time of this review) is a good deal.
Overall, for $19.95 this is a very solid building kit that comes with 3 different music boxes and 3 separate musical elements, though they all play Beethoven's Für Elise.Instructions are mostly straightforward with a bit of assumptions on where to put screws. English is 80% accurate in the directions as well. The wood is like balsa and separates easily enough from the pre-cut boards. It's pretty fun assembling them with your kids, and even though the kit provides glue and paint, you don't have to use either to complete all three music boxes. Some downsides: The music elements are off-key a bit, and I wish they offered different songs instead of the same one. Quality is also a concern as there is supposed to be a small mirror on the inside of one music box but mine had a big gash on it after I removed the protective film. A bit sad, but it's still nice. This is a great craft at the price point, what's included in the kit, and the experience! However, it just needs a bit more polish in material quality and some variety with the music element songs.
Overall this kit is a neat idea. It's fun to do in your free time and comes with 3 different boxes to make: classic music box, a rotating carousel, and a gramophone. So far I only made the gramophone but no complaints yet. The pieces are laser cut so they're easy to pop out and put together, though you'll need to use the included glue to make sure it stays together. They even included little paints if you're so inclined to customize. This is definitely a kit that would be best done with kids if you have any, a great family activity.Only things I would note is that this listing says it's a STEM kit, but it leans more towards being an art hobby kit. But arts are just as important for develop as STEM.And all three of the music boxes play Fur Elise, so make of that what you will.
My grandson likes making things and likes music boxes so this should be a very good Christmas gift.
it was amazing watching the kids have so much fun, tapping into their creative side. It was a great family bonding moment and definitely cut out some screen time which was a plus for me. The instructions were clear and it was easy. Beautifully made and it came with EVERYTHING you need including the paint and paintbrush.
I have no direct knowledge as I did not see the box opened
5 Stars
This is a very complicated project with tiny pieces. The assembly definitely requires adult help. The paint it came with was dried out so we used our own. However our 8 year old loved it and was very proud. It took multiple hours for each one (comes with 3 boxes). They are not big - about 3-4 inches in length and width.
My 3 grands enjoyed these! We had a few carousel animals snap in two, but other than that, no problems. They were very happy with their creations!
If you are wanting a no pressure break to spend some good quality time with yourself or maybe a few others this is a good project to work on. having the same music for all three is good if you are splitting the project with others but if they are for yourself, its kind of a let down.
These were a really fun project to paint and build with my 7 year old daughter. All the pieces went together really well and they are really cute for her to take pride in having built them. However, the "music box" mechanisms that come with them sound terrible. The tuning of the songs is way off, and the spacing of the "notes" on the drum aren't consistently spaced even if you crank the drum at a consistent speed.Overall, fun to build, cute to look at, but TERRIBLE to listen to!
This is a great project for puzzle Lovers.
I got this for my 8 year old who is amazing at legos and assembling things and he had somewhat of a challenge with this but it was a. Good team work project for us to do together. The instructions are simple the wood is very light and easy to click together. It includes 3 projects and I'm just tickled with how adorable these are!I would definitely purchase these at full price knowing. This is a quality product. If you want to go extra, assemble this. But then go back behind yourself and adhere everything together with a glue so you can have it. As a timeless gift with yourself or whoever you decide to build this with. Great products! You can even go back in paint or color it with markers. 5 stars!
Got this stem kit as a fun project for our 6 year old to do with us. She loved helping to put together the boxes and adding some color to them. I’d say the biggest letdown was that all the music boxes were the same song. If they would have been 3 different songs then this kit would have been perfect.
This craft music box kit is great for kids to put together with a parent. There are several items- so they can give one of their creations away as a gift too.
I bought this set for my 9 year who loves building all kinds of things. This was just up her alley and she loved all 3 of them!
I grabbed this set for my younger kids (9, 6). It comes in a set of three so we were all able to make one. They needed a lot of help, and little fingers probably will for some time. They still had fun with the project and are proud of their final products (all worked without issue). Great, unique craft activity to do as a family.
I have there kids and three projects came in this kit. Perfect to make easy kiddo happy. They were able to follow the directions and put each music box together on their own. It was really fun to watch them listen to their music box after they put them together themselves. They were so proud and quite impressed with themselves. Definitely looking for more kits like this one for them. Kept them busy for at least an hour and they really loved it.
This music box kit provides a fun activity to share with your child, although it's worth noting that adult supervision and assistance will likely be required during assembly. While younger children may struggle, those around 12-13 years old should find it more manageable. The kit includes three separate projects to assemble and paint, and despite its affordable price point, the finished products are surprisingly sturdy.
This is a GREAT kit. Many times when a product says you can make three things with kit, they mean you can make ONE of the three things at a time since they share parts. This kit contains three complete kits and paints to be used across all three projects. The instructions are stellar and printed in full color. The instructions even include some insights and trivial that I really liked. The pieces are laser cut and very easy to assemble. A reasonably motivated child or a younger child with adult help can put these kits together. The only tools required are a screw driver and glue which are both included for each kit. The paints are shared and only one brush is provided. Personally I like the look of the wood and would leave it as is or possibly stain it, but I am not a kid.It only takes a few minutes for an adult to assemble each kit making them a good project for a club activity or a joint activity between adult and child. This is not to be missed.
There are 3 FULL music boxes in this little box! They all play the same song "Fur Elise" which happens to be one of my favorites. They are all pretty simple to put together. I would suggest, if you want to paint them, to paint first then dry and assemble. Very cute though, great quality. The screws that do come with it are pretty tiny, had my little ones help. I thought they would have an easier time with them but little fingers don't mean better dexterity lmao. Would love to order more kits like this!! Giftable as well.
These are cute music boxes and fairly easy to build. It's great that they come with glue, and I had extra screws for attaching the music boxes, which was appreciated since they are small and I could see them being easy to use. Even though the music box styles are different, the music is not, which feels like a miss. The paint is a nice touch, although I haven't painted mine yet... There are no real ideas for what to paint, so it's more freestyle, and not necessary to actually paint to use these. Nice, easy craft project for older kids or adults.
Questions parents ask
What's included in the Music Box Kit?
Materials for three music boxes, a basic music box, a gramophone music box, and a carousel music box. The kit also includes 8 colors of paint, 2 paint brushes, glue, and detailed step-by-step instructions.
How does a music box work?
Each build plays music with a real music box mechanism. As the mechanism turns, a drum covered in small bumps rotates. The bumps lift thin steel reeds and let them drop, and reeds of different lengths make different notes. The instructions include a science fact that explains it, and our guide How Does a Music Box Work? goes deeper.
Do the music boxes have to be painted?
No. The 8 paint colors and 2 brushes are there for kids who want to decorate their music boxes, and the natural wood looks great too. Some families paint before they build, and some paint once everything is together.
What ages is it best for?
It is recommended for ages 8 and up. The wooden pieces are small and the screws are tiny, so younger builders may want a grown-up alongside to help with the fiddly parts.
Is it safe for kids?
Every Pinwheel Crafts kit is CPSIA compliant, which means it meets the US federal safety requirements for children's products, and this kit conforms to ASTM D-4236, the US labeling standard for art materials. It contains small parts, so it is not for children under 3. Keep the tiny screws away from younger siblings and pets.
Do kids have to build all three at once?
No. Each music box is its own project with its own step-by-step instructions, so kids can build one at a time and save the next for another day.
Can siblings share one kit?
Yes. With three separate builds in the box, three kids can each make their own music box and share the paint set. It also works well as a project for a parent and child to build together.
Does it make a good gift?
Yes. It is a great pick for birthdays and holidays, especially for kids who like building things or love music. With three music boxes to make, they can keep one and give another to a grandparent or friend.
