Questions parents ask
What's included in the Mermaid Charm Bracelet Kit?
400+ beads and charms in total: 12 metal charms, 12 enamel and gem charms, deluxe jeweled beads, and an assortment of pearl, crackle, and opaque beads. You also get elastic bracelet cord, step-by-step instructions, and a mermaid scale carry case measuring 7.5 by 6 by 2.5 inches. It is a compact kit, sized to travel and to store on a shelf rather than to fill a table.
What ages is it best for?
It is designed for ages 5 and up. Because there is no knotting or weaving involved, most children can string a bracelet start to finish without help. One parent told us their 7-year-old made four bracelets in the first day on her own. Younger crafters usually want a grown-up nearby for the first knot, and older kids and teens tend to spend longer planning the colour patterns.
Is everything in the kit safe for kids?
Yes. Every Pinwheel Crafts kit is CPSIA compliant, which means it meets the US federal safety requirements for children's products, including limits on lead and phthalates. This kit contains small beads and charms, so it is not suitable for children under 3.
How many bracelets can she actually make?
Up to ten, depending on wrist size and how many beads she uses on each. Most children make three or four in the first sitting and then keep going over the following weeks. Because the cord is elastic, she can also take one apart and rebuild it, so the bead count matters more than the bracelet count.
Is there enough elastic cord to make all 10 bracelets?
Yes. The kit is packed with enough elastic cord for up to 10 bracelets. How far it goes depends on wrist size, so if she is making them for older kids, for adults, or stringing them long and loose, you may get fewer out of it. If she runs low: take a finished bracelet apart and restring it, since the cord is elastic and meant to be reused, or pick up a spool of elastic beading cord from any craft store.
Does she need to know how to make friendship bracelets?
No, and that is the main difference between this kit and the loom or floss kits. There is no weaving, no knotting patterns, and nothing to learn first. She threads beads onto elastic cord and ties a single knot. The skill is in the design choices, not the technique.
Does it make a good gift?
It is one of our most-gifted kits, for birthdays, sleepovers, and Christmas. It arrives ready to wrap, and because there is nothing to learn before starting, it works as a gift that gets opened and used the same afternoon. It also travels well, which makes it a reliable choice for holidays and long car journeys.
What happens when she wants to change a bracelet?
She takes it apart. The elastic cord unties, the beads go back in the case, and she starts again with a new combination. Parents regularly tell us the case outlives the crafting and ends up holding hair clips, rings, or whatever small treasures need a home.
