What You Make
The Chirpy Chick Crochet Kit makes a plump, palm-sized chick that is almost all body. You crochet one round yellow ball, stuff it, and close it up, then add two small wings and a button of an orange beak. Two black safety eyes finish the face. With only a few pieces to sew on, it is a gentle first step into amigurumi.
Start Where the Hard Part Is Done
The trickiest part of amigurumi is the opening ring, so the kit arrives with the first rounds already worked and held by stitch markers. The printed booklet walks through each round, and its QR code opens the Chirpy Chick video lessons. For tips on choosing a first kit, read Crochet Kits for Beginners: A Parent's Guide.

This is great for someone with basic crochet knowledge. If you are a total beginner, i do not recommend as the video tutorials are inaccessible and you will have to look up other ways to learn the stitches. The yarn is super soft though and will produce a very cute chick.
This is a cute little crochet set. My teen daughter has been wanting to learn how to crochet. She has sewing and some knitting experience and was able to figure this out. It turned out cute and she enjoyed it. I'd say the price is a bit high for what it is, but it was a fun project.
Questions parents ask
What's included in the Chirpy Chick Crochet Kit?
Everything for one crochet chick. The kit comes with a pre-started piece on beginner-friendly yellow tube yarn and orange yarn for the beak. It also includes a crochet hook, a yarn needle, stitch markers, safety eyes, polyfill stuffing, printed and video instructions, and a storage bag.
Is this a good first crochet project?
Yes. The chick is mostly one round body with two wings and a beak, so there are fewer pieces to make and sew than in our dino or bunny. The first rounds are already started, and the booklet and videos show every step. A grown-up who knows a little crochet can help with the first few rounds.
Where are the video tutorials?
Scan the QR code in the instruction booklet, or visit our Chirpy Chick tutorials page. There are five lessons covering the body, the wings, the beak, and sewing the pieces on.
How long does it take?
The box says 3 to 8 hours. Most of that time goes into the round body, since the wings and beak are small pieces.
What ages is it best for?
It is recommended for ages 12 and up. Crochet takes steady hands and careful counting, so younger crafters will want a grown-up crocheting alongside them.
Is it safe for kids?
Every Pinwheel Crafts kit is CPSIA compliant, which means it meets the US federal safety requirements for children's products. The kit contains small parts, including the safety eyes and their washers, so it is not for children under 3. Keep the eyes away from younger siblings until they are locked in place. The washers need a firm push to snap on, which is a good moment for an adult to help.
What is the yarn like?
It is a smooth, chunky tube yarn made for beginners, in yellow with orange for the beak. The thick strands make each stitch easy to see, so you can count as you go.
Is it good for Easter?
Yes. A yellow chick is a natural fit for spring, and the kit makes a screen-free Easter basket gift. Pair it with the Love Bunny Crochet Kit for a bunny and chick set.
