5 Mother's Day Craft Ideas For Kids and Teens This May
Share
Happy May! May makes us feel like we are ready for a new adventure. Here at Pinwheel Crafts we are celebrating Mom’s and warmer weather all month long. Did you know May was named for the Roman goddess Maia, who oversaw the growth of plants. Also from the Latin word maiores, “elders,” who were celebrated during this month. Maia was considered a nurturer and an earth goddess, which may explain the connection with this springtime month. We hope you enjoy a few of our Earth Goddess crafts this month.
Since Pinwheel Crafts was founded on spending more time with our children, we especially take pride in our craft kit and stem kit collections that you can enjoy also for Mother’s Day. Mother’s Day is a holiday in honor of mothers that is celebrated in countries throughout the world. In its modern form the holiday originated in the United States and many other countries also celebrate the holiday on this date. Celebrating Mother’s Day started officially in 1908 and became an US holiday in 1914. Although it is tradition to present your mom with gifts and flowers, we suggest you create something beautiful for her like flowers from our Flower Origami Kit, or even a personalized necklace in our Pendant Jewelry Kit, and for your gardening mom, customize our adorable Flower Pots (which won a Mom’s Choice Award).

Pendant Necklace
If you’re not sure what to make mom this year, you can’t go wrong with jewelry! You can make a wide variety of custom, one of a kind necklaces using the Pinwheel Crafts Pendant Jewelry Kit. It comes with all the supplies you need to make 8 different necklaces, so you can make a couple for the other mom’s in your life, too.
While the Pendant Jewelry Kit has a wide variety of printed designs included, there’s no limit to how you can customize a necklace for your mom. Print off her favorite photo, or use her favorite pressed and dried flowers. If you’re looking for even more ideas on how to make your pendant unique to your mother’s tastes, check out the Pinwheel Crafts blog outlining several creative ways to make a custom pendant necklace for Mother’s Day.
Mermaid Jewelry Box
Whether you’re making her jewelry, or she has a burgeoning collection already, all mom’s need a place to store their treasures. You can create her very own beach-themed jewelry box with all the supplies included in the Pinwheel Crafts Mermaid Jewelry Box Kit. It comes with everything you need to design, paint, and decorate an amazingly unique box for storing all of her jewelry.
Of course, you can add just about anything to her jewelry box. The Mermaid Jewelry Box Kit comes with paint, shells, gemstones, half pearls, glitter, and more, but you can also get creative with special mom-specific items. Decoupage on her favorite family photo from that last vacation to the beach. Break out your collection of paints to mix a custom color in her favorite hue. If you can think it, you can make it happen.
Mom Magnets
If you’re not sure what to get mom this Mother’s Day, you can’t go wrong with a fridge magnet. Most mom’s have a refrigerator, and they also need to put things on that fridge to remind themselves about important items and events. Instead of simply purchasing a generic Mother’s Day magnet with flowers and nearly illegible calligraphy, why not go the extra mile and make a custom magnet for mom?
The Pinwheel Crafts Fun Fridge Magnet Kit contains the supplies you need to do just that. There are enough ceramic tiles, magnets, and supplies to create up to 8 unique magnets for mom this year. You can go with something simple, like an “I Love You Mom” magnet, or really get creative with your use of color and design. No matter what your creations look like, mom is sure to love them and display them on her fridge with pride.
Springtime Flower Pots
If your mother has a green thumb, then she’s probably already busy as a bee working in her garden. Why not create a gift with functionality? The Pinwheel Crafts Flower Pot Kit is a great way to make a set of adorable holders for her next set of plants.
In the kit, there are plenty of supplies to create whatever design you like. You will find three ceramic pots and a tray, as well as paints, many colors of craft foam, chenille stems, and googly eyes (plus more). There are also templates to help you cut out specific pieces to create an adorable butterfly, a beautiful bumble bee, and a lovely ladybug. What a cute trio!
Of course, you are not limited to only the supplies provided in the Flower Pot Kit. You can use any supplies you may have on hand to make a one of a kind creation for that special plant mom. Raid the craft closet and bust out the glitter, stickers, and decoupage. Make it something she’ll love (and use) for years to come.
Paper Bouquet
Does your mom love gardens, but has a brown thumb? Maybe consider making her something that DOESN’T require the finesse of horticulture skills to keep it looking pretty. You can create an everlasting bouquet of flowers for mom this year with nothing but the Pinwheel Crafts Flower Origami Kit. Along with 100 pieces of origami paper, this kit also provides fun accents like buttons, gems, chenille stems, and an in depth booklet to walk you through a wide variety of origami flower designs.
You can create your arrangement using paper to make a vase. You could also choose to contrast the origami with a ceramic, or glass container. There is no limit to the design you can make for mom with this Flower Origami Kit.
Origami flowers are also a GREAT way to add extra dimension to any DIY Mother’s Day card ideas you might be working on.
Conclusion
While it’s great to use your own crafting skills and creative thinking to make something special for mom this year, what’s REALLY important to her is the time she spends with you. You can create these gifts, but we know, as moms ourselves, that bringing these kits WITH you to the Mother’s Day gathering and making an activity out of it with your mom will mean so much more to her. So, whatever you decide to get her or do for your mother this year, just make sure to stop by (if you can) and let her know just how special she is to you.
Until next time, happy crafting!
