Pinwheel Crafts - 4th of July

Pinwheel Crafts - 4th of July

At Pinwheel Crafts, we love holidays. Any holiday that is not just about gift giving but instead about creating and celebrating with family and friends, a little BBQ never hurts either. The 4th of July is right around the corner!

4th of July is more than just an historical holiday celebrating America’s birthday, we would say it is one of the most colorful and definitely the loudest! Fireworks are by far the most unique way to celebrate a holiday. What’s even cooler is that you can turn them into crafts!

This week, we’ve rounded up a fun craft for you to do to pay homage to America. So what are you waiting for? Let’s get started!

Supplies for creating a firework salt painting

Paint is such a versatile craft supply. With some imagination, a canvas and a little bit of paint, you can create just about anything, and fireworks are no exception. Using a bit of creativity, and maybe a little glitter you can whip up a beautiful creation. Read on to find out how to make your own!

Kid creates firework shape with glue

You will need:

  • Canvas or paper
  • Glue
  • Salt
  • Watercolor paint
  • Paint brush
  • Glitter (optional)

Directions:

Gather a canvas or paper

1. Create a firework shape with glue by creating a small dot in the middle with several lines pointing out and slightly down (similar to a spider shape)

2. Sprinkle salt on the glue

3. Remove excess salt for use by bending paper slightly and pouring onto a paper plate

4. Paint each firework with chosen watercolor

5. Continue with all of your favorite colors to create the “show” you would like to see!

Alternative Directions: With Glitter

1. Steps 1-2 (same as above)

2. Choose glitter colors (1 or multiple per firework) and sprinkle into the salt

3. Sprinkle salt and glitter mixture on the glue

4. Remove excess salt/glitter for use by bending paper slightly and pouring onto a paper plate (be sure to pour away from glitter free glue)

5. Continue with all of your favorite colors to create the “show” you would like to see!
